Standards we aim for
We are working to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities — including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments — and more user-friendly for everyone.
What we do
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading hierarchy on every listing page and city guide.
- Keyboard-navigable menus, search, and listing filters.
- Alt text on daycare photos, logos, and every content image we publish.
- Sufficient colour contrast between text and background on listing cards and body copy.
- Responsive layout that adapts to screen readers, magnification, and mobile devices.
- No autoplay audio or video on any page.
- Accessible request-info and claim-your-listing forms with visible labels, error messages, and focus states.
Known issues
Our directory contains thousands of daycare listings, and some older entries imported from public licensing records may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA — for example, a few photos may still be missing descriptive alt text, and some long listing descriptions could use improved heading structure. We are working through the directory systematically to update these.
Third-party content
Some parts of this Site include content from third parties — for example, embedded Google Maps on listing pages and YouTube videos on guides. We do not control the accessibility of those third-party widgets. Where we can, we provide alternative ways to access the same information (for example, a street address in plain text alongside the map).
