Author: Heather Maclean Rating: 2/5 Date: 11/2/2023, 12:39:30 AM Review: TL;DR: your child will be watched, cared for, and safe. But don't expect much else. Staffing is a revolving door. I hardly ever leave a review, but hoped this could help anyone looking into MWLS. Upon finding this school, the reviews were very up in the air. Half AMAZING the other half horrible. But the part time rate and location was everything I needed, so I wanted to give it a chance. I called to schedule a tour and it was quick and easy. The facility is beautifully set up with lots of space inside. A small playground, but a decent one, nonetheless. Later, I emailed the 'director' I had spoken with, looking for more enrollment info. I received no response. I called a few days after and was informed I was speaking with a NEW director. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because we know disgruntled people leave some extra angry reviews, and this school is fairly new. We scheduled a follow up tour. The director I met that day informed me she was new. I directly asked about the reviews and she informed me that those were the reason she was now here and the previous director was gone. We really warmed to her. My child immediately took to her. She made us feel welcome and comfortable. So we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and enroll simply because of our conversation with her. The new director sent us pictures and kept us updated. But during the rest of the time our child was enrolled though, about a month, there was no trace of activities being done. When the cameras worked, I didn't see much happening. Kids of mixed ages were often together because of low enrollment. When it was time for drop off and pick up, I almost always found them watching TV in the main dining area. The director was very communicative with us but these were some red flags... Not long into our time here, my child was sick and missed some days and she kept in touch while he was out. When we returned, suddenly this new director was gone, let go or quit, I don't actually know. But we were given no notice and I had to ask to owner, who was working in the building that day, to find out that she had even left. It was only the owner and one other teacher as far as I could tell from this point. After this day, we felt very uncomfortable and debated sending our child back. We kept him home for a week before deciding this school just wasn't cutting it. I'd like to point out that I did not inform them that we were keeping our child home, and they did not reach out to us even once. I sent an email the next week expressing that we were un-enrolling and still never heard a word back from them. Not an email, a phone call, or anything. So this was a big indicator to me that we made the right choice to leave. During our time here, I did feel that my child was safe and cared for. The teachers and one director I met were always kind. But there was no consistency, no enrichment, and no engagement. The fact that the staff continuously changed and dwindled tells me that something is wrong somewhere higher up.

My kids come home asking to go back to school! Their environment is clean, and very accommodating.
Our children seemed to be enjoying their experience. Our son even became comfortable enough to relieve himself properly in their restroom. Things went downhill when he took too long and was told he not could not go on their outing for the day. He became upset and was told he could not go the next day either because he was a crybaby. Multiple staff members participated in name calling our son. My wife was completely ignored when she arrived to pick up our children. Fully formed adults don’t bully and name call children. This behavior is particularly appalling from childcare “professionals.” To then ignore their mother who was asking for answers is the most telling part of all and demonstrates the true culture there.
Horrible horrible horrible . The owner takes money from people , they yell at kids , the nice place is just a front for how the owner treats kids and her employees! She’s rude and steals and talks behind her employees
My 3 year old son started at this school about 3 months ago. Hands down the best decision I made for my child. He has attended 2 other schools in the past and after coming to this school you can tell the difference of love, care, and attention the school and teachers put in everyday. My son has made such progress in things that he was lacking like recognizing letters of the alphabet. Everyday he comes home with something new learned. The staff and teachers are amazing. The owner ms. Sonji is very professional and really cares about the children and families that attend her facility. It always is very clean and organized. If you are looking for a daycare or trying to choose between a daycare, choose markhamwoods little scholars you will fall in love like I did and be very happy with the results of the school.
The daycare is very clean, friendly staff, I would highly recommend this facility for childcare. My daughter is always happy and clean when I pick her up .
